Case studies should not be considered typical or representative, nor should they be considered to have external validity. Because each case study is unique, it must be considered as a description and not typical of a larger set. However, the topic of the case study may be selected and described as a way of identifying a theoretical relationship between antecedents and events or conclusions (Roberts 2005).
